Mr. Hanson grew up in Piedmont, Alabama and graduated from Piedmont High School. He played baseball at Snead State and graduated with a General Education degree. He earned is undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University in Physical Education and Social Science. Also, he earned his Masters and Educational Specialist in Educational Administration from Jacksonville State University.
He began teaching and coaching at Piedmont High School in 1996. In 2003, he started the 21st century program at Piedmont Elementary School where he served as the director. He became the principal at Piedmont Elementary School in 2006. Since 2017, he has been the principal of Piedmont Middle School. He has served as the system transportation director since 2006.
Mr. Hanson has presented at many state and national conferences on successful programs used by Piedmont City Schools. He spoke in Chicago at the NASSP National Conference on personalized learning. Also, he has served as AAESA and AAMSP CLAS District President. He is a CLAS Certified Instructional Leader. His school has partnered with Google through Dynamic Learning Project to provide tech support for teachers over the past couple of years.
He is married to Kim Hanson and she works within the Piedmont City School System. They have three children. He loves spending time coaching and watching his kids play sports.
